Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Mexico observe some holidays on Mondays?

Since a 2006 reform of the Federal Labor Law, three holidays are observed on Mondays to create long weekends ('puentes'): Constitution Day on the first Monday of February, Benito Juárez's Birthday on the third Monday of March, and Revolution Day on the third Monday of November. In 2026 these fall on 2 February, 16 March, and 16 November.

Are Day of the Dead and Holy Week holidays in Mexico?

No. Day of the Dead (1–2 November), Our Lady of Guadalupe (12 December), and the days of Holy Week are widely celebrated but are not statutory rest days under the Federal Labor Law. Many businesses close anyway, and banks observe some additional non-working days set by the banking commission.
